The Isle of Sleeves

This is a new place for me.  Having never knit a sweater before, I’m not entirely sure, but I suspect I’ve landed on Sleeve Island.  It feels vaguely familiar – the scenery is a lot like that at Second Sock Syndrome.  I find myself doing things that are in no way related to getting off this here island.

This was my bits and pieces, empty out the squirt bottles experiment.  I think it turned out rather nicely.  Meanwhile, my cardi back, fronts and one lonely sleeve await rescue.

LOVE these foam floor tiles!  They make perfect blocking boards.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to run out of yarn.  I’m still working diligently sporadically on the second sleeve.  I’ve been daydreaming about my next project.  I have ten balls of SWTC’s Pure in Blue Depths (100% soysilk) and I’d love to make a three-quarter length sleeved cardi to wear this summer, with lots of cables and seed stitch and interesting, challenging things going on.  Any suggestions?  The Nantucket Jacket from the Winter IK has all the elements I’m looking for, but the gauge is way off for the yarn (20 stitches per 4″ on a US6).  You would THINK, since this is soysilk yarn, that the Spring IK, with its focus on bamboo, soysilk, and other alternative fibers, would have something suitable but nothing really strikes my fancy.  And the layout – gotta say – I don’t care for it.  I like all the information about a project in one spot.  I like the surprise of finding new projects as I get towards the back of the magazine.  This seems to be the consensus in blogland, maybe they’ll change it back.

If you have any ideas, I’d love to hear them.  I’m going to keep plugging away on my sleeve.  And occasionally pet the yarn.

What a great idea of blocking boards! I imagine they’re a lot cheaper than buying multiple blocking boards, too. Hhmmm…..

I love the “bits and pieces” yarn — it looks so happy! I can’t wait to see how your Rambling Rose turns out…I’m crossing my fingers that you won’t run out of yarn!

I like your cardi knitted in single colour, it is better than using 2 colours shown on the IK magazine. I agreed that using foam floor tiles are good at blocking. At HK, u can buy as cheap as USD 1.5 to get 10 small squares to combine them to build a large foam.

The bits and pieces turned out great – now get back to your cardi! That is way to pretty not to finish and wear right away.

Your Rambling Rose is beautiful — love the foam tile idea too!

The “Bits and Pieces” colors are wonderful — how much yardage in there?
