Which means I get to bring the next King Cake.  In honor of Mardi Gras, I’m resurrecting an old email I wrote after visiting New Orleans for Mardi Gras in 2001.

Random Scenes From Mardi Gras

A man sitting on the street corner having his wooden leg “tattooed” by a girl in a bathing suit…three mid-40s guys with huge flower pot hats wearing signs that read “The Pot Heads”… a topless young girl with incredibly perky spray-painted breasts leading her boyfriend by the hand into a bar while he was trying hard not to glare at all the guys checking her out…a crazed man shoving his palm which held a cockroach in my face saying “LOOK! LOOK!” and then frantically looking for his cockroach after I shrieked and hit his hand away from me, sending the roach flying…a very drunk woman concentrating fully on the line of the sidewalk as she staggered out of the Quarter and towards home (hopefully)…a table of four middle-aged women, wearing nothing above the waist but feather boas in assorted colors, enjoying a dinner of boiled crawfish…a man pulling out his penis in an effort to get beads…a woman on the balcony above said man saying, “it’s pretty small!”…a woman who is probably a receptionist in Des Moines in her everyday life feeling up every man who walks by her (and every woman for that matter)…two men having sex on a balcony…teenage girls showing their breasts for a clan of men weilding a camcorder…a veritable mountain of trash on every street…a man with a long picker-up device rifling through the trash for Mardi Gras beads…

In knitting news – I’m done with the back of my Rambling Rose cardigan!  I’ve been on the couch for the past 36 hours with a raging sinus infection, so no spinning, and no dyeing, just some episodes of The Office and a few rows on the cardi here and there.
