Designer pillow

The masses have spoken, and I am keeping the pillow’s design element.  Thank you so much for your input!  I did adopt a suggestion from Tania, something that had occurred to me but I thought I’d decided against, and that was to alternate between the remaining dark yarn and the new ball.  I rather like the way it came out.

It’s a bit stripey, which was my objection to it in the first place, but I think it looks fine as a whole.  Because it’s kinda stripey anyway.

I’ve just started the last section and then I’ll have to spin more yarn to knit the back of the cushion!  I would have finished it, but I got sidetracked by the fun fur hat and dyeing over the weekend.

4 oz. Brown Sheep mill’s ends;

5 oz. Falkland leftover from my SAFF buying frenzy at Little Barn, with a tiny bit of wool/mohair blend gifted to me by Holly (I threw it in the dyepot because (like a mountain) it was there, but if this becomes socks, I’ll use it for the toes and heels since mohair adds strength); and lastly

8 oz. South African Fine Wool Top – part of my b’day order from Hello Yarn.  It dyes wonderfully and feels really soft – I can’t wait to see how it spins

I actually started a dye notebook so I could keep some sort of record in this learning process.  I wrote down the colors used, how I applied the dye, the amount and type of wool, and left space on each page to attach samples of the roving and the spun yarn.  I have the illusion that if I keep records, I *might* be able to reproduce colorways.  Just in case I ever want to quit this fantabulous job as a legal secretary and be my own boss.

***Almost forgot*** I’ve joined Maryse‘s Picture A Day.  Since my camera is always with me (you never know when you might see something blog-worthy - laugh all you want, mortals, you know it’s true!) I’m hoping it’ll make me take notice of little things.  Here’s my picture for yesterday.

    Oh, it looks good! Yay! I’m so glad it’s working out.

    That roving .. oh! It’s so yummy-licious! Jason would be mightily jealous, I’m telling you.

    Hey sis!!! First of all, I LOVE the South African pile or whatever you call it. Eeet’s my favorite :o). Secondly, I thought I’d check out your blog again since the last time I attempted knitting, as I became discouraged or a balloon flew by, I forget. Either way, your blog looks FAB – and I haven’t even checked out all the pics and everything yet!

    I started knitting again a few days ago, mainly to stop myself from eating. Yes, that’s correct, I’ve invented the knitting diet. Actually, I needed something to do with my hands because Monday was week EIGHT without smoking TYVM, and I have packed on about a pound a week by constant snacking. I figure if my hands are full of yarn and what knot (der – pun), I won’t be able to snack as much.

    Okay – this is a really long comment, sorry. Oh yeah – I forgot…the items I’ve knitted so far…Well, the iPod cover I made for Sydney is roughly the size of a breadbox. WTF? I don’t think I understand reading the patterns or something.

    See you this weekend!!!!!
