The post where I ramble on

Wendy mentioned her mailman woes, so I thought I’d share a few of ours. Her mailman was frustrated over something so he dumped a pile of mail for the residents to sort through, instead of putting the mail in the appropriate slots.
I hear ya, Wendy. Our “mail delivery persons” (1) won’t pick up outgoing mail, or if they do, they drop it off at a neighbor’s house down the street; (2) get so frustrated at a barking dog INDOORS that they MACE the dog through the glass window; and (3) have recently started telling new homeowners that they must replace their house mailbox with a curbside box. They have no authority to do this, which has been confirmed with the local postal officer – they just don’t want to walk to the houses. Maybe they’re afraid of the window dogs. Yes, we got a post office box, which is an expense we should not have to bear, but worth it considering the price we’d pay for not getting our mail (bills) in a timely manner.
I have been knitting. I started a pair of socks for my mom (totally unplanned xmas present) and I’m working on another xmas present. Here are mom’s socks, knit with Opal Petticoat on size 1 dpns:
I’ve also been dyeing. I’ve dyed 12 oz. of the Falkland roving I bought at SAFF, pretty much experimenting with the Lanaset dyes. The Falkland is really nice, has a good sheen to it and takes dye well. It’s a bit harder to spin than BFL, I think the fibers are longer.
I’m trying really, really hard to keep it under control today. BECAUSE TOMORROW I’M GOING TO LOOK AT WHEELS! Oops, that slipped. I don’t want to get all excited and thinking I’m going to come home with a wheel and spend the whole night in a spinning frenzy, making luscious fibery creations and be so caught up that I call into work sick the next day and just spin, spin, spin. I have to be sensible and not fork over a lot of money until I find THE wheel, MY wheel. Right? Right.

Heh. Good luck on that whole “patience ’till I find the right wheel” thing. My wonderful husband once got me the best and worst Christmas present ever – best because it was an Ashford Traditional spinning wheel. Worst because it was in the box, unassembled, and had to be sanded and polyurethaned and put together before I could use it. It was torture. For a few days, at least.
