Show us your booty!

Here’s the stuff I got at SAFF:
Top L to R - 8 oz. CVM, 8 oz. 64s Merino top, Lanaset starter kit plus a half ounce of four more colors, 1 lb. Falkland (all this roving is from Little Barn), greenish multi-color wool/silk/sparkly roving I bought to play with. It was really cheap and it was the first thing I bought.
Middle – alpaca! Mmmmm! The dark roving is 4 oz., beautiful stuff from an alpaca named Precocious, and the light is 3 oz. that was only $5 because it needs to be washed and carded.
Bottom L to R – Kromski niddy-noddy holding 1 oz. tussah silk, double plied, about 60 yards. I love this stuff!!! I’m ordering a bunch of it soon! SOOO shiny and virtually indestructible. Next, 8 oz. Ashland Bay roving with a little tester skein of spindle-spun on top; two skeins of Brooks Farm yarn, one is 60% superwash wool, 20% silk, 20% vicose (Acero might be what it is called?) 440 yds for a small shawl or socks, and 500 yards of kid merino for a scarf; then more Ashland Bay roving – 8 oz.
I also bought a new spindle!
It’s by Janet Yost of Wooden Ewe and it spins like a dream. I was able to draft while spinning for the first time ever on this while spinning the tussah silk. I think because the silk was so strong and only cost $3.00, I felt I had nothing to lose and was able to do it! I love it. I think it’s my favorite purchase.
I’ve been debating on whether or not I want to continue blogging. I’m one of those people who communicate better in person and I’m not sure blogging is going to change that. I don’t like feeling like I’m in competition with others to knit faster, spin better, be witty(ier), entertaining or wise. No one makes me feel that way, it seems to be a by-product of having a blog and reading others’ blogs. An unplanned for, unwanted by-product. I have a competitive nature; it’s something I wish I could change about myself, but there it is and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. November may be the test, I’m thinking of joining NaBloPoMo. Maybe if I post every day, I’ll either get sick of it or come to terms with my blog-style (if such a thing exists). We’ll see.

Now why would you quit blogging? It is a purely personal endeavour, an outlet for expressing yourself – NOT EVERYTHING IS A COMPETITION. I know, I know, “Pot, have you met kettle?” Your level of gungho enthusiasm is one of my favorite things about you. But please don’t drive yourself batty. Write when you feel the urge, leave us longing for your purls of wisdom (everybody groan) when you don’t.

A blog can get to be a drag, but what helps me is the thought that you don’t HAVE to post. Ever. Unless you want to.
Might be handy to keep around just to keep track of your projects. I don’t know about you, but I lose all my notes all the time. Also, it makes me feel like I finish things way faster. :D

I went through a period of feeling like I was in a competiton trying to knit “cool” things and do it faster than I’m capable and feeling the frustration of not being as fast as everyone else or making things that are as pretty, intricate, interesting, etc.
I got over it when I realized that I didn’t start blogging for others. I do it because I enjoy it. It’s another creative outlet. I can keep track of what I’ve knit, the ranting and raving and cussing, the triumphs and joys. It’s a purely selfish endeavor.
It’s definitely a personal decision, but I hope you don’t quit blogging.

At first I thought the everyday posting for a month thing would be a good exercise for the old flaccid writing muscle, but the more I thought about it the more it would mean the blog would become a burden, another source of pressure and guilt. And it’s supposed to be fun. Maybe a little break from it would tell you if you missed it or not. I’ve certainly gone through spasms of wanting to chuck mine from time to time-many times this past year, in fact. But then I go to SAFF and realize I would never have met you guys or anyone of the other bloggers I did see if I didn’t have the blog. So it boils down to the social aspect for me. At least currently. For selfish reasons, I hope you decide to continue but I certainly wouldn’t want to add pressure to you.
Not a bad haul at all. You don’t seem to have bought any YARN! Good thing you can make your own. That’s a pretty spindle. I’ve been having spindle envy all day, what’s wrong with me?

I forbid you to stop blogging now! (said in my best bossy voice)
Of course, I acknowledge that this decision is all yours to make, but I am not beneath fibery-bribery (heh). You don’t want to blog like everybody else, or do what everybody else is doing anyway, right? Find your niche, your own blog voice and just release what you want to write. For what it’s worth, I’m on my third blog and I’m FINALLY happy with blogging (i.e. 99% of everything I write either relates to or comes back around to knitting), so I can heartily recommend a do-over if that’s appealing to you in any way.

I was about ready to quit blogging a month or so ago. I’ve since changed my mind. If it takes too much time or you have nothing to say, then take a little break. That might re-charge your batteries.
Oh…I was disappointed, too, that Linda Diak wasn’t at SAFF. She is one of my favorite vendors, and her batts were on my wish list. I guess now it’s back to mail ordering some. At least I have one left in the stash!

Wow, great haul!! Can’t wait to see what you make of all that (see – you can’t quit blogging!)

I just met you – don’t stop blogging! Love your loot. I have the same Wooden Ewe drop spindle. Somehow I am more hooked on the wheel at the moment. When Pixie taught me how to spin she told me that that would be the case because spinning on the wheel is easier. I have to get back to the drop spindle at some point. I missed out on posting on 11/1 – maybe nobody will notice, hehehe. I guess it could be a good exercise for me, too. Have a great weekend!

gorgeous roving. i love the colors you chose, too. i’m doing that blog everyday in november thing. and the challenge will be for me to post on the weekends. i’m at a pc all day at work, so i don’t want to look at one on my off-time. who knows? it may be a fun exercise for us both! a agree with your other commenters that you should blog for you. i don’t blog with an audience in mind, but more as a documentation of my explorations of craft. hope you’ll continue on. i bet if you stop, you’ll really miss it.

Lovely pictures. I love the blue merino top on the right. It’s so interesting to see what people got at SAFF. I love looking at the different colors and color palettes.
With regards to blogging, do what you have to do! I started blogging to keep track of everything and didn’t even start reading other blogs until I had been doing mine for a month or so. I’m enjoying it more now that I met other interesting bloggers at SAFF and there seems to be a tiny bit more of a personal connection and everyone was really down to earth.
