Today’s rant

Can someone please explain to me why repairmen are held to a different standard than any other working person in the entire freaking world???  I can’t think of one other profession that allows such a lackadaisical attitude towards showing up when you’re supposed to and getting the work done in a timely manner.  We have this repairman – Don – who, when he manages to show up, is good at what he does.  But – it’s like pulling eye teeth to get him to show up!  He lies and says yes, he’ll be there Monday.  Monday rolls around – no Don.  Okay, we call him and he has some lame excuse about (a) an emergency someone else had, (b) a car situation, or (c) he’s finishing another job.  Fine.  He eventually shows up, usually on a Friday around 3:00 in the afternoon because he wants to get paid before the weekend.  He has done this crap to us for a year now. 

Fast forward to today.  Don was working at the house yesterday, came in the morning, Sgt. Britty took off work to meet him and go over what needs to be done.  Don left to get supplies, didn’t bother coming back until late afternoon.  The man and his son were there until 6:30 last night and didn’t accomplish one thing.  They were supposed to come back bright and early this morning.  Take a wild guess whether or not they did.  Nope, they showed up late, only did half what they were supposed to do, and now are giving us a song and dance about having another job to do tomorrow so they don’t know if they’ll be able to come back and finish OUR job!  Bastards! 

Now, the job they have left undone isn’t critical.  We don’t have a basement full of water or anything like that.  Don is supposed to come back and rewire for the new hot tub we had delivered last week.  Yeah.  I’m upset because the hot tub won’t be working for god knows how long now – now that we’ve FINALLY got cooler weather, now that we’re going backpacking this weekend and I can’t tell you how nice it is to soak your tired, aching body in a hot tub after a weekend in the woods.  But no.  Don’s screwed us over again.  What really ticks me off is that we first called an electrician – fabulous guy who shows up when he says he will – and he was out of town but arranged for another electrician to call us.  That electrican called this morning and we told him we had someone else who was handling the job.  So, if Don hadn’t dicked us around, we could’ve had someone out there probably today, and it all would have been fine.  I want to shake loose what few teeth the man has left in his teeny little lying head.

    REPAIRMEN aren’t just late, don’t comprehend either. My dryer died. After a week of calling the store I finally get a person, not an answering machine. I explain the situation. They say someone can be there in the morning. I say I work til 3:30 and so they have to come later. He says ok how would 2:00 be?? Hello!!! I just said that I work until 3:30. He say ok Friday around 1:00 they will be out. I said fella you are not following me. I do not get home until 3:30. He says, ok someone will be there at 4:00 tomorrow. ok. He shows up at 5:00!! AHHHHHH!!
    By the way, he flipped all the switches on the dryer and it started. Doesn’t that figure.
    Just thought that I would rant a little too.
    the point is… I FEEL YOUR PAIN. find a new repairman.

    Yeah, find a new repairman. That way we can have our SAFF powwow in your hot tub. :)
