New curtains?

No, but it sorta looks like curtains, doesn’t it? I ordered acid dyes from Diva Knitting last week, they arrived Thursday and Saturday afternoon I did a little crock pot dyeing. I read several tutorials, but found this one most helpful. The roving above was actually dyed last night, run through the spin cycle and hung up this morning. I’ve already started spinning the roving I dyed Saturday; I’m about halfway through!
The roving looked VERY tie-dye-ish, I’m happy the colors aren’t so bright when they’re spun. I think I took the “when in doubt, throw in more yellow” advice a bit too far for my personal taste, but the roving I dyed last night is more reds/oranges/blues, which is what I wanted. Very Fall.
I made a homemade Lazy Kate out of a shoe box, two aluminum knitting needles, Tinkertoys and rubber bands!
The yarn on my makeshift “bobbins” are singles from Crown Mountain Farms in Midnight Hour. The bottom bobbin was spun as-is, the top was my attempt to use up some of the bright fuschia roving by adding bits as I spun. I’ve plied it, but I’m not sure I like it so no picture yet.
I did ply the Corridale singles, and I really like how that turned out. Spinning is fun, it’s such a surprise to see the difference in the way the colors look in roving compared to spun singles; but plying is a hoot! You watch this barberpole develop between your fingers and it’s really pretty. Plying also disguises a multitude of sins, which is very helpful to a newbie like myself.
72 yards, haven’t measured WPI yet. Pretty darned balanced, if I say so myself! I like. And the best part? I have more!

I love how it looks plied. I agree that it hides a lot of mistakes. I am a new spinner myself and have yet to try spinning for singles. I love the colors you dyed your roving!!

Oh yeah.. ya gotta love the plying *grin* That dye job looks pretty awesome too! Yeah, a little bright when seen in roving, but by the time it gets plyed… like you said.. autumn!
