she aint pretty

she just looks that way…
My first yarn! Very slubby in areas, especially the joins, and very thin in other areas. Also twisted to within an inch of its life. But you know what? I LOVE IT!!! I think it’s beautiful! I give full credit to Hello Yarn for that – it’s definitely the colors and not the spinning (spindling? shouldn’t it be spindling?).
I know I’m doing tons of things wrong. I’m pre-drafting because I can’t seem to hold the roving loosely. I spin, park and twist. I have probably 2.5 to 3 ounces of roving left, so I’m going to work on it more. But then – I don’t know what to do with it! Should I ply it together? That will make a VERY bulky yarn, but a stronger yarn. Do I set the twist before plying? I have no idea.
I made my own niddy-noddy on the fly.
That’s a postcard I got at the Musee Dali in Paris. Before I went to the museum, I didn’t know that Salvador Dali was also a sculptor. This is called Alice in Wonderland. Alice’s hands and head are covered in rosebuds; it’s one of my favorite pieces of art and I wish I knew more about it. I tried to find a good picture to link to, but couldn’t.
I can’t help myself – the gratuitous close-up. I think I’m going to go order more roving now, as I’ll be out before the weekend passes.

yay! yarn!
you aren’t doing anything wrong, you’re just getting the hang of it.
don’t set it before plying. (i let someone much more experienced confirm however). but why don’t you keep it as singles? it’s so pretty and it’s plenty strong enough.

Oh, nice! Knit Nouveau carries roving. Just thought you might want to know that. Grand opening tomorrow! See you there?

You MADE YARN! With your own hands! Spinning impresses and intimidates me. Your yarn looks WONDERFUL and knittable!
