Yellow jackets

Sgt. Britty (f/k/a “DH”, henceforth to be referenced “Sgt. Britty” at his request) and I were sitting on the back deck last night (enjoying gin rickeys and regrouping after a long, difficult day) and I was fascinated by a yellow jacket buzzing around the Thai basil. He looked like this:
(Can you believe it? I figured out how to resize photos! Hurrah!)
When I stopped worrying about being stung, I was struck by how beautiful his colors were. I started swatching with some Nashua Wooly Stripes yarn I bought for 50% off at In the Making, thinking it would look good as a Multidirectional Diagnonal Scarf, but I only have two skeins. At 88 yards each, that would make a very short, thin scarf. I can deal with thin scarves, but NOT short AND thin. (Could this be an analogy for *something else*? Hmmm…Asparagus wanker, anyone? Ha-ha – inside joke, sorry) Of course I had to run to In the Making at lunch today to see if they possibly had another skein in the Cognac colorway. Nope. But they did have ONE skein in Spice Market and I’m hoping the two will work together. Thanks to the wonder of Paint, I created this to “see” what it might look like:
Not as yellow/orangish as I’d like, but I hope it’ll work.
Nevermind the fact that I NEVER wear yellow. OR orange. :o

I like your disclaimer for Sgt. Britty’s page.
Did you know that there seems to be an abundance of yellow jackets or at least stinging bugs this summer? I’m not a big fan of this trend.
The yarn colors look good together. I can’t wait to see what you make with it!

Thanks! Me neither! Ha-ha.
I didn’t mention that I was BATHED in bug spray while on the back deck. Mosquitos make a b-line for me as soon as I walk outdoors and when we hiked at Oak Mtn. this past Saturday, there were yellow jackets EVERYWHERE! Can’t wait for wintertime!
