M, M & M Ms

Movies, movies and more movies, that would be. This past week has been the Week of Movies. My husband has been feeling rather crappy (thanks to a bug I gave him-sorry!) Let’s see, last Saturday we took Drew to see Nacho Libre. I have to say, I was disappointed. Not that it’s reasonable to expect much when it comes to Jack Black, but quite honestly, I was pleasantly surprised at his performance in School of Rock (it didn’t hurt that I love Joan Cusack) and had high hopes that Nacho Libre would be…well…entertaining, at least. Nope. Don’t waste your money.
Thus began the Week of Movies. Drew was with his dad, so we gleefully breezed past the Sponge Bob and Pokemon DVDs and opted for more adult entertainment. Not that kind of adult entertainment, people! DH was sick, remember?!? ;o) We saw: Sideways (Loved the score, scenery and surprises. Liked the characters in spite of myself), In the Bedroom (Sooo sad. Tom Wilkinson was great), Shopgirl (Most disappointing of all the movies we watched. Narration was distracting and unnecessary. The actors were great, but Jeremy’s transformation was not explored fully enough to make it believable), Supersize Me (Made us glad to be vegetarians. I’m hanging onto this 8 day rental to try to get my 10 year old Happy Meal toy addict to watch it), Me, You and Everyone We Know (this was a happy surprise. The honesty was refreshing, even if we were shaking our heads in disbelief a lot of the time), Lost in Translation (tied with Million Dollar Baby as the best movie of the week. Terrific cinematography and acting - it’s a movie that stays with you), Million Dollar Baby (Great. Watch it.)
You know, I think there were more but I can’t remember them right now. That’s a lot of movies, eh? We NEVER watch movies, so this is quite out of the ordinary for us.
Much knitting was done while the movies were playing (which is one reason I didn’t want to watch The Beat That My Heart Skipped; I’m not good enough to read subtitles and knit at the same time. But, it’s on the list!)
I finished the first Trek Along With Me sock!!!
Mack “helped” me finish the sock. Excuse the pjs, please.
I finished the back of my Heat Wave tank. Easy, mindless knitting. I hope to have it finished before the end of summer.
And I pulled this bag out of the UFO stack. This is my own design, for good or for bad, for better or for worse. The bottom (second pic) was based loosely on the Shingra (??) bags in Folk Bags, the design I charted from the Latvian Mittens website. I just need to braid the handles and felt the thing! I’d like to sew a lining, like Eunny’s, but that will have to wait until my sewing machine is serviced.
And of course, I cast on for something new!!!
Dontcha love the moss stitch??? Mmmm….moss….
Mohair Mittens from Woolflowers‘ blog. I’m knitting these with Brown Sheep Handpaint Originals in the New Enland Fall colorway. I have one skein of this yarn. Yes, this means that the YARN FAMINE will have to end if I want to have TWO mittens, as there are only 88 yards per skein…what a shame, what a shame! Bwwahhahahahahahahahaa!
Lastly – look who’s guarding our small veggie and herb garden!
It’s a baby banana spider!!! Beautiful, huh? Although she (he? I’m going to make it a she. Because I am Elizabeth, a la Laurie!) appears ginormous in this picture, she’s really not much bigger than the borage blossoms:
Borage blossoms taste like a tart, sassy cucumber. And they’re a TRUE blue, which is rare in the floral world.
