Canasty

Back to the real world – the world of alarm clocks, project deadlines, and laundry.  Blech!  But, it’s not all bad…routine has its benefits.  Today was supposed to be the first day of my Diet and Exercise Til I Lose 30 Lbs. program, but I fell victim (alright, alright, I was the instigator) to celebrating the last day of vacation with a Canasta-playing/Margarita-drinking tournament.  Yeah.  My husband kicked my butt in cards and the tequila kicked everything that was left over.  My scheduled 45 minutes on the treadmill or eliptical climber at lunch will have to wait until tomorrow, folks.  Because other than the hair of the dog beer that will be in my hand as soon as possible upon hitting my front door, I am swearing off the booze and the mexican food-goodness for at least, say, two weeks.

Enough of that.

The beach was fab, fab, fab!!!  The water was beautiful, no jellyfish and very little seaweed.  And there was knitting!  I worked on my tank top, and am about two inches from beginning the armhole decreases on the back:

It’s the color of the ocean!  I love this bamboo yarn – it’s sleek and smooth and perfect for a summer top!  My needles are turning a slight greenish-blue, however, and I hope the yarn doesn’t bleed much when washed. I also hope this thing fits me, it’s the first “real” garment I’ve made.

I also worked on my trekking sock, I’m using the Blueberry Waffle pattern and color 78, which I am totally, totally, in love with.  I want to eat this yarn.  And yes, it even smells good!  DH snapped these while I was picking up stitches for the gusset.

It’s going to be a challenge – not finishing these socks before August and the end of Trek-Along-With-Me.

I was thwarted, however, in my quest for new yarn and new yarn shops.  A co-worker got married the day before we drove to the beach, and I planned a little visit to Darlene’s Yarn Shop in Opelika, Alabama on the way.  Got there with plenty of time to spend all my money browse before getting ready for the wedding, walked up to Darlene’s front door, and found a closed sign – she’d gone to TNNA!  I was like, “she’s there with my hats!”  What hats? you may ask.  Well, after volunteering to make a beanie hat for Ace, SWTC asked me to knit display hats for their booth at TNNA.  I was happy to oblige (read: free yarn for test knits! Oh yeah!) and knitted up these hats, which are modeled by the Mancub.

A beret – I asked Drew to “look French.”  I think he was saying “Ah-hahh hahh hahh” in his best Pepe LePew.

CIMG0959.JPG Roll brim hat, my own recipe.  These colors reminded me of Neopolitan ice cream.  Except for the purple.

Basic beanie hat (like the one i made for Ace).

I failed to take a picture of the sixth hat, which was my favorite and my own pattern!  Dang it, I’ll just have to knit another.

While we were gone, our little garden nearly doubled size:

Yes, that’s a rubber snake guarding our first tomato of the season!  My crazy friend Donna put him on the neighboring tomato plant and I think he’s there to stay.  Nine varieties of basil, people, NINE!  Love me some pesto.

If you finish your trekking socks early, just start a new pair. Love the color too.

I love your Trekking color, and the sock looks just yummy! Who said anything about pacing ourselves? Such a foreign concept.
